And America’s Team, once again, became Super Bowl Champions.
The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most successful NFL franchises in the Super Bowl era. Their 10 conference championships are the most of any team, while they have also claimed 22 division championships and have tallied 31 playoff appearances.
On January 28, 1996, the Dallas Cowboys won Super Bowl XXX, their 5th as a franchise. Dallas became the first NFL team to win three Super Bowls in five years, a feat since repeated only once.
That year, Emmitt Smith led the NFL in rushing with 1,773 yards, Michael Irvin recorded over 100 receptions for just over 1,600 yards and Troy Aikman threw for 3,304 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions.
Led by Aikman and head coach Barry Switzer, the Cowboys posted a 12- 4 record and won the NFC East for the 4th-straight year.
Dallas defeated the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers en route to their then-record 8th Super Bowl appearance.
The Cowboys defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-17 in Super Bowl XXX. Dallas took an early lead and never looked back. Eventual Super Bowl MVP Larry Brown intercepted Steelers QB Neil O’Donnell twice and cornerback Deion Sanders became the first player ever to record an interception on defense and a reception on offense in a Super Bowl.
