Trade Deadline: Jets Reportedly Called Cowboys About DL Sheldon Richardson

RJ Ochoa

When you’re 6-1, everybody wants a piece of you.

The Cowboys find themselves in such a position and have found one of their NFL peers – using that word loosely when referring to this specific team – peeking their heads in.

It’s no secret that the Dallas Cowboys are a great team with one obvious need – pass rush. The New York Jets have seen this – amid a gazillion Ryan Fitzpatrick interceptions – and said, “Yo uh hi can we help please let us just touch your greatness.”

How did the Jets say this? According to ESPN’s Todd Archer they called the Cowboys to gauge their interest in defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson. A defensive lineman! Another team! Calling us! You hit 6-1 and suddenly everybody wants to help.

It makes a lot of sense that the Jets would call the Cowboys about Richardson. A few reasons:

  • The Jets have wanted to move Richardson for a while.
  • Jets Head Coach Todd Bowles knows the Cowboys well (worked for them from 2005-2007).
  • The Cowboys are in the opposite conference from the Jets and won’t see them again until 2019.

According to OverTheCap.com, Sheldon Richardson has cap hits of approximately $3M and $8M in 2016 and 2017 respectively. The NFL Trade deadline for 2016 is 3pm CT today, November 1st. It’s unlikely that the Cowboys – or any NFL team for that matter – will make a serious move in the 11th hour, but at least the Jets tried (you can also say this after every Jets game).
