WATCH: Rico Gathers Finishes Off Lob From Maverick-For-A-Day Tony Romo

Farewells to Tony Romo in his retirement from the Dallas Cowboys have come in waves from former and current members of America’s Team on social media, but nothing compares to this video from Rico Gathers. The Cowboys’ sixth round pick from 2016 out of the University of Baylor’s Men’s Basketball team, Gathers never played a regular season game with Romo as he spent his rookie season working on the transition from basketball to football – a jump to the NFL that Romo reportedly helped Gathers greatly with in practice as his QB.

Tony Romo will “play” one more game in the city of Dallas Tuesday, as he’ll suit up for the Dallas Mavericks wearing #9. While it doesn’t seem like Romo will log any NBA minutes before officially trading in his uniforms for a CBS headset, his hardwood home on Tuesday is a domain all too familiar to Rico Gathers.

In the above video, Tony Romo (#9) is seen dribbling through the defense before lobbing a pass to an open Gathers for the easy finish at the rim.

The Cowboys are of course hopeful that athletic skills like these from Rico can help him become the latest match up nightmare at TE (he also posted this ferocious dunk from the same league), only further adding to the incredible potential Dallas’ 2016 draft class has.

This draft class will likely be remembered as the one that America’s Team found the replacement for Tony Romo in Dak Prescott. It will be Prescott that could receive the benefit of eventually throwing passes to Rico Gathers, but I have a feeling he’ll always remember this basketball pass from Tony as well.
