2017 Senior Bowl: Which Players Should Be On Cowboys’ Radar?

Brian Martin

North squad

Wide receivers: Cooper Kupp (Eastern Washington), Amara Darboh (Michigan)

Cornerbacks: Desmond King (Iowa), Jourdan Lewis (Michigan), Rasul Douglas (West Virginia)

Tight ends: Jeremy Sprinkle (Arkansas), Mike Roberts (Toledo)

Defensive end: Dawuane Smoot (Illinois), Chris Wormley (Michigan)

As you can see, there is no shortage of players to watch on the North team. All of these prospects could be an upgrade for the Dallas Cowboys, and all of them play at a position of need.

Cooper Kupp is one of my favorite wide receivers in the entire draft class. I think he would be an upgrade over both Terrance Williams and Brice Butler, and his stock will continue to rise the further along we get into the draft process. Amara Darboh is the type of WR the Cowboys like. He is tough, physical, and isn’t afraid to carry his routes anywhere on the field.

Desmond King, Jourdan Lewis, and Rasul Douglas are all talented CBs that could possibly be starters with the Cowboys. King’s better position might be at safety, but that flexibility is something the Cowboys have come to value. Lewis is best out of the slot and Douglas is one of those big CBs that has become popular in the league.

Jeremy Sprinkle has become one of my favorite TEs in this draft class. He is pretty impressive in both the running and passing game. Mike Roberts has intriguing size, but I want to see how he handles himself this week against some better competition.

Dawane Smoot and Chris Wormley are both Day 2 defensive ends that could be on the Cowboys radar. Both players have intriguing upside, but need to show up this weekend if they want to improve their draft stock.

    • It will be interesting if he is still on the board at 28 when the Cowboys are set to draft. It would be hard to pass up adding a player as talented as Howard.

          • Noticed this today from Keith Mullins;

            Every time I hear Romo wore out the #Cowboys defense with Rico Gathers on the scout team I think a TE pick early in ’17 is even less likely.

          • I saw that earlier today too. I’m skeptical Rico Gathers will ever be a starting TE in the NFL. I think the best that we can hope for from him is him developing into a solid backup.

  1. Absolutely, all these players would bring energy efficiency and enthusiasm to the Cowboys, in the organization quest for a Lombardi Trophy in 2017.
