Bob Sturm Talks Cowboys RB, Brandon Carr & “The Gregs” on Cowboys Cast 8

Bobby Belt

On this week’s episode of Cowboys Cast, Bobby, Jared & Josh discuss the current running back situation in Dallas. Who will be the #1 RB when the season starts, Joseph Randle or Darren McFadden? And how will the recently proclaimed dedication to the team by last year’s practice squad RB, Ryan Williams, be rewarded this year?

We also covered a bit of the Brandon Carr situation, pointing out that many of Carr’s troubles in Dallas have stemmed from the zone coverage scheme and how this year’s modification to more of a man coverage scheme plays to Carr’s strengths. Either way, it is now June 1st and the Cowboys can officially cut Brandon Carr from the roster after this point and save $8 million off the 2015 cap, as RJ Ochoa pointed out earlier today. Read RJ’s post: Brandon Carr Celebrates June.

Then Bob Sturm from The Ticket in Dallas (AM 1310, FM 96.7, 12-3 p.m. Monday through Friday) joins us to discuss some things he’s seen at the Cowboys OTAs, including Greg Hardy and Randy Gregory (#TheGREGS as I like to call them) performing well so far against Tyron Smith and the rest of this stellar offensive line, albeit in shorts. He also gives his outlook on the Cowboys RB situation, and has some pretty pointed things to say about DeMarco Murray and Joseph Randle saying in an interview last week that Murray “Left a lot of meat on the bone.”

All in all, it was a great show. Even better because Bobby finally got some company in the studio with Jared Katz now a college graduate and returned home to Dallas for a while. Congrats to Jared!
