A heated NFC East rivalry gears up for its 107th battle in Week 1 of the 2015 NFL season, as Eli Manning and the New York Giants hit up AT&T Stadium to take on Tony Romo and the Dallas Cowboys.
Jerry World will be absolutely rocking for this one, as Dallas attempts to pick up right where they left off after going 12-4 and winning the division in 2014. The G-Men, meanwhile, will certainly have other plans, as they try to right the ship by ending a four-game losing streak to the ’Boys.
This is about as hateful as NFL rivalries can get, but the end result is usually some of the most entertaining action throughout the entire slate.
On top of the NFC East ramifications, everyone simply wants to see who can out-do who between Dez Bryant and Odell Beckham Jr., the two superstar wide receivers who just might be the two best at their position in the sport today. Naturally, a game with this much hype and star power carries some serious weight as far as tickets go, so no one should be shocked that tickets to see the Cowboys and Giants square off to begin the new year are averaging $291.69 on the secondary market, with a get-in price of $92.
For Dallas, this is pretty much the norm, but regarding New York Giants tickets, this represents a $36 spike from their regular season average, and understandably so given the high-profile nature of this Sunday Night Football affair.
The loss of running back DeMarco Murray, last season’s rushing leader, could easily end up burning the Cowboys offense all year, but with Bryant and quarterback Tony Romo still around as one of the game’s top passing duos, Dallas seems to be in good hands. The ground game still appears to be a big focus for the Cowboys in 2015, with Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden on equal footing entering the campaign. It’s possible both could fail to help replace Murray, but going up against a Giants defense that ranked 30th against the run in 2014, Dallas will want to exploit that behind their elite offensive line.
The Giants bring a balanced offensive attack, which will be a great test for the Cowboys defense at the beginning of the season. After losing Orlando Scandrick, the main focal point may be on the secondary to see how they recover from losing their top cornerback.
It will also be intriguing to see how they deal with Beckham Jr., who looked unstoppable last year in his rookie campaign.
Undoubtedly, this is one of the must-see games for Week 1, and it could have an important impact right out of the gate for both clubs. A win here could potentially springboard one of these NFC East residents on the run they desire while the loser would already be digging a hole in one of football’s toughest divisions.
