Cowboys CTK: Brandon Carr’s Carrousel Spins Around #39

RJ Ochoa

Welcome to the fifth day of the eighth month of the two thousand and fifteenth year! Today is a great set of 24 hours, as we are officially one day closer to Dallas Cowboys football. Yes, training camp has been a breath of fresh air. Yes, I am excited for preseason football. No, I did not pass my Chip Kelly Hydration Levels.

The NFL is turning into our neighborhood once again as we all prepare for Sunday’s Hall of Fame game between the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cowboys will meet the San Diego Chargers just 8 days from now, but the New York Giants sit 39 sets of the sun away from their first loss of 2015. Grab a bottle of water just in case Coach Chip is watching and let’s continue our Countdown To Kickoff with the Greatest 39 in Dallas Cowboys History.

The Following Players Have All Worn 39 For The Dallas Cowboys:

  • Brandon Carr*, CB
  • Derrick Gainer, RB
  • E.J. Jones, RB
  • Ryan Neufeld, TE
  • Lousaka Polite, FB
  • Broderick Sargent, RB
  • Donald Smith, CB
  • Collin Zych, S

*Active player on the Dallas Cowboys roster

Jersey numbers in the 30s are so cool because of the multiple positions that can wear them. Just with 39 we’ve got corners, running backs, a safety, a tight end, and a fullback! This jersey number comes down the Countdown To Kickoff like a 3rd and 10 inside slant pass and one of these gentlemen earned his way and picked it off.

Brandon Carr

That’s right! The one and only Brandon Carr fought his way to the title of 39. Brandon’s NFL career actually began back in 2008 when he was drafted in the 5th round by the Kansas City Chiefs out of Grand Valley State.

The Kansas City secondary was pretty vaunted with Carr, Brandon Flowers, and Eric Berry. They had some good times all the way through the 2011 season. Carr’s time came to an end then, and for all of you fun fact seekers you should know… Brandon Carr’s last play in a Chiefs uniform resulted in him intercepting Tim Tebow.

Cowboy Carr

Brandon Carr signed with the Dallas Cowboys on March 14th, 2012. He was brought in to bolster Rob Ryan’s defensive secondary and coupled with that year’s first round draft selection, Morris Claiborne, was supposed to terrorize opposing quarterbacks.

The 2012 season was a fine piece of work by Brandon Carr. He had 3 total interceptions, each one very interesting in its own right. His first interception with a Star on his hat came in Philadelphia, and he returned it for a touchdown! 4 weeks later during an emotional game in Cincinnati… Brandon managed to pick off Andy Dalton in the second quarter, a turnover that the Cowboys converted into a touchdown and would help them secure a victory.

Brandon’s finest interception in 2012 came against one of the franchise’s most hated rivals. The 7-6 Cowboys fought their way to overtime against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Needing a big play Brandon Carr stepped in, literally, front of Mike Wallace and returned an interception that set the Cowboys up for the game-winning score.

Pick Six

In 3 seasons with the blue and silver Brandon Carr has picked off opposing quarterbacks 6 times. He has had his ups and downs in the defensive backfield, but you know what?

Every time Brandon Carr has an interception the Dallas Cowboys win.

That is correct. All 6 of Carr’s interceptions have helped the Dallas Cowboys secure victory.

#39: Brandon Carr

The Carrousel of Brandon will continue to run as Brandon Carr hopes to bounce back from a disappointing 2014 during this 2015 season. The current Cowboys cornerback situation is the subject of a lot of speculation, Brandon Carr among them. It’s going to be very interesting to see what Carr does in a season with so much on the line, but whatever he does he’ll do it as the Greatest 39 in Dallas Cowboys History.

Check back tomorrow to find out who the Greatest 38 in Dallas Cowboys History is!
