By tomorrow at 4 PM ET, the Dallas Cowboys will have their roster trimmed down to the 53 players that will represent them on September 10th against the New York Giants in week one. Plenty of cuts are left to be made, but the team has already moved on from RB Ronnie Hillman – releasing him earlier today.
Hillman was signed ahead of training camp by the Cowboys, with his addition serving as an early sign of fear by the team that Ezekiel Elliott would face a suspension. With Elliott still set to miss the first six games of the regular season, and Hillman no longer with the team, the Cowboys must feel comfortable with Darren McFadden, Alfred Morris, and Rod Smith.

All three backs have gotten plenty of opportunity this preseason, and have all looked worthy of their roster spots. Facing an uphill battle to acclimate to a new team in year six, Hillman was worked as a third down type back against the Raiders in the third week of the preseason.
Ronnie Hillman that looked like the shiftiest back on this team aside from Zeke, but with limited reps this preseason he faces an uphill battle making the 53 man roster.
I wrote in my most recent edition of Sean’s Scout that Hillman made the most of these preseason reps, but still had a long way to go to make this roster.
