The Dallas Cowboys are like any other team in the NFL. When a player is going to miss significant time due to injury they have to determine whether or not it is better to cut ties altogether or if the particular player has a future with the organization.
That is the exact situation the Cowboys were in when they found out that rookie wide receiver Chris Brown would likely be out 6-8 weeks due to a broken foot. It has yet to be announced what they plan to do with Brown. They could place him on IR or place him on the waived/injury list with an injury settlement.
Chris Brown has been one of the few undrafted players to make plays after signing with the Dallas Cowboys. Both he and Andy Jones have received positive reviews up to this point from the coaching staff and they both had a real shot at making the team in some capacity.
Whatever they decide to do with Chris Brown will be telling and determine his future with the organization.
Richard Mullaney
To replace Brown the Dallas Cowboys worked out former Alabama wide receiver Richard Mullaney earlier today and signed him to a contract. Prior to playing for Alabama, he played three seasons with Oregon State.
Mullaney was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans, but was recently released.
As part of the Crimson Tide’s championship team last year, Mullaney caught 38 passes for 390 yards and five touchdowns. He has intriguing size for the position (6’3″, 208) and was clocked running between a 4.45 and 4.55 second 40 yard dash at his pro day.
Although he seems to have good speed for the NFL, it is said that his best traits are his route running ability and ability to catch the ball.
At this point, Richard Mullaney is a longshot to make the Dallas Cowboys roster, but could possibly find his way to the practice squad if he has a strong showing in practices and the remaining preseason games.
