Cowboys Waive RB Trey Williams, Clear Way For Elliott’s Return

In his second stint with the Dallas Cowboys since 2015, running back Trey Williams reached the active roster a few weeks back when the team released Darren McFadden. Williams was never active on game day though, as Alfred Morris and Rod Smith were all the Cowboys needed to survive Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension at 3-3. In order to bring Elliott back to the active roster for week 16, the Cowboys have again waived Trey Williams.

As far as Cowboys Nation seemingly always remaining attached to former running backs that find their way to America’s Team, Trey Williams has carried the ball twice in regular season action since 2015. He has played for five teams around the NFL besides the Cowboys, and even joined the CFL with Toronto in October.

The Cowboys’ workhorse is back in the backfield, ready to pick up where he left off as Ezekiel Elliott amazingly remains 15th in rushing yards despite missing these last six games.

Behind him, Alfred Morris and Rod Smith should continue to serve in backup roles.
