With the Blue-White Scrimmage in the books, the Dallas Cowboys are now preparing for their first preseason game of the 2015 season this Thursday, August 13th. Here’s a quick roundup of the injuries and highlights that have transpired since camp began.
Injuries
Kenneth Boatright (neck), should be fine, but still hospitalized as of Sunday afternoon.
Lance Dunbar (ankle), Dez Bryant (hamstring), Scandrick (knee) none of which is believed to be serious.
Coach Garrett said Darren McFadden won’t practice until August 15th at the earliest because of his hamstring injury.
Brandon Carr (broken bone in hand). He was expected to fly to Dallas on August 10th for surgery; his return has yet to be determined.
On the field observations
Surprise! This is just a different defense when Sean Lee is on the field.
Demarcus Lawrence completely transformed his body during the offseason and the results are showing up when he’s rushing from the LDE position.
JJ Wilcox seems to be having his struggles in coverage so far this camp.
Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, and Dez (before the hamstring tweak) are, well, doing what they do.
Cole Beasley has been virtually uncoverable all camp long, no matter the drill.
Ben Gardner and Jack Crawford have been showing the position flex this coaching staff loves, and showing the ability to provide a nice rush at end and tackle.
Tyrone Crawford and Jeremy Mincey have been demonstrating an awful lot of power.
Rookie watch
Lucky Whitehead is the name everyone is talking about, but don’t sleep on Nick Harwell though, he’s has been making plays when on the field.
Byron Jones is looking the part, and will have increased opportunities at cornerback with the recent injury to Carr.
Randy Gregory looks and is playing a lot bigger than his current listed weight of 245 pounds. Also, he has held his own from the RDE position.
Damien Wilson is showing versatility at LB and looks to be following in the footsteps of Anthony Hitchens.
Ryan Russell has been up and down. The coaching staff has been moving him around to various positions trying to find the best fit.
