[AUDIO] RJ Ochoa Talks Cowboys Draft on WMSC

Yesterday, I was joined by Staff Writer RJ Ochoa on 90.3 WMSC, as we discussed the Cowboys draft class on the season’s last edition of Upon Further Review. This was my last show of the season, and I want to thank everyone and anyone that was a part of the program. For helping me represent Cowboys Nation on the college radio airwaves of Montclair State University, it means the world to have people tuning in to the program every week. Here is that final segment with RJ:

Cowboys Post-Draft Position Strength Rankings

The offseason isn’t completely over. There are still some teams cutting veteran players after the draft and there should be several more after the important June 1st date. Trades can also happen as teams look to unload surplus talent at one position for future draft picks or to shore up areas of need. What needs could the Dallas Cowboys still address between now and the start of Training Camp in July? Taking their new rookie class into consideration, here’s a look at the strength of every roster position and where they may direct some attention.

What Roger Staubach and Jaylon Smith Have in Common

Per usual, the Cowboys are taking a lot of heat. What else is new? The Cowboys almost always have a target on their back that haters aim their criticisms at; it comes with the territory of being America’s Team. The Cowboys’ draft received a “C” grade from experts, due in part for taking a chance on two players. They took Jaylon Smith in the second round, in spite of his knee injury that may prevent him from seeing the field until next season.

Ezekiel Elliott Dominates Preliminary Madden Rookie Ratings

Ezekiel Elliott is the shiny new toy for the Dallas Cowboys,  and their prized possession following a 4-12 season that led to Elliott’s selection with the fourth overall pick. You can read all about our excitement for Elliott right here (seriously, follow that link to be thrown into a world where Ezekiel Elliott dominates with the Cowboys and everything is right). However, this article is here to talk about a certain virtual version of Zeke Elliott. EA Sports has begun ranking this rookie draft class through Madden NFL’s Ultimate Team. Without even factoring in the run blocking grades (or any other grades) for the Cowboys offensive line, it already appears that Elliott will do more than make Giants, Eagles, and Redskins fans throw a remote on Sundays.

[VIDEO] Mississippi State Reflects On Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

During my musings for Inside The Star I enjoy to have something on Netflix in the background. Typically it’s something that I’ve seen before so that it’s not too distracting. Lately I’ve been re-watching the greatest show in Texas history… Friday Night Lights. It’s a Texas Forever disposition that FNL preaches, and such is the case for the Dallas Cowboys who bring glory and pride to the Lone Star State.

Former Cowboys RB Tashard Choice Joins Coaching Staff

The Dallas Cowboys have added former running back Tashard Choice to their coaching staff. Choice, who was with the team from 2008-2011, will work under current running backs coach Gary Brown as the assistant. While Choice did not have a ton of success in Dallas following his selection in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL draft, he picked a good time to rejoin the team in his new capacity. The Cowboys current running back depth chart is as good as it gets from around the league, with Ezekiel Elliott now joining the likes of Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris. Zeke Elliott is expected to do great things in Dallas as soon as he steps onto the field.

Job Security: Post Draft Speculation

With the draft over and undrafted rookie signings trickling in, job security may be looking, well, less secure for some Dallas Cowboys. Of course, as I’ve said in previous articles, when it comes to football, nothing is given – everything is earned. The new guys, for the most part, will have to earn their starting spots and work hard to keep them. Still, there are Cowboys on the roster that could be bumped to the practice squad or other teams. Quarterback Fingers crossed that Tony Romo is healthy for all of the 2016 season.

Cowboys Running Backs: Who’s In? Who’s Out?

The Dallas Cowboys are going to be faced with a difficult decision when it comes to evaluating the running back position and deciding who’s in and who’s out. One of the most surprising selections for the Cowboys in the 2016 NFL Draft was when the organization decided to draft Eastern Michigan’s Darius Jackson in the six round, especially after making running back Ezekiel Elliott the 4th overall pick. If you would have asked me before the draft what position the Cowboys were most likely to double dip in I would’ve probably answered either defensive end or cornerback, but never in my wildest dreams would I have thought the Cowboys would use two of their nine draft picks on running backs. The running back position will be one to keep an eye on throughout the rest of the off-season and it will be interesting to see what the Cowboys ultimately decide to do with all of these RBs. Let’s take a look at the depth chart and try to predict who stays and who goes.
