Cowboys 2016 Roster Projection: Post-Draft Edition

I’ve been doing Cowboys roster projections for years now. It’s a great exercise in deductive reasoning but also provides periodic snapshots of where you see the team throughout the offseason and preseason processes. I like to get that first snapshot right after the draft. My next projection will come before training camp, reflecting all of the new information we’ve obtained from the May and June practices, any new free agent activity, and any losses of players due to injuries or suspensions. Keep in mind that I am projecting the Cowboys’ Week One roster.

Dallas Cowboys Pick Up C Travis Frederick’s 5th Year Option

Typically a team that drafts 31st Overall has lost the Super Bowl the season before. Such was not the case in 2013 when the Dallas Cowboys drafted Wisconsin’s Travis Frederick. Draft pundits chastised the Cowboys for taking Frederick at the time. Supposed experts claimed that he was worth no more than a third round selection and that the Cowboys were out of their minds for utilizing such a valuable resource on him. You see, there was a reason why the Cowboys wanted to take Frederick in the first round…

Brandon Carr Takes At Least $3mil Base Pay Cut

With just a few days left until the 2016 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys and cornerback Brandon Carr have mutually agreed to freestructure his contract according to Albert Breer. This should come as welcome news to a lot of Cowboys fans who have been calling for Carr’s head on a platter for a few years now. It has been the belief of a lot of Cowboys faithful that he has never quite lived up to that lofty $50 million contract, and rightfully so. Carr has been a steady presence in the Cowboys secondary having started every game since signing with the organization, but that still doesn’t sit well with fans. What this pay cut shows is Carr is truly a team player and is willing to make sacrifices in order to help the team out.

Von Miller to Cowboys: Crazy Awesome, or Just Crazy?

The other day I got a wild hair and tweeted out the idea that Dallas could try and sign Von Miller. That’s right; the reigning Super Bowl MVP and arguably the best defensive player in the NFL. Knowing that Miller was franchise tagged by the Denver Broncos, I included the price of signing him in my proposal. I get crazy ideas all the time and dismiss them quickly. This one, however, is still lingering.
