The Dallas Cowboys got their first win in week 2. Several players had good weeks and contributed to many Fantasy Football teams.
QB Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott finished just shy of his first 300 yard passing day. For the second straight start he failed to throw a touchdown pass, but also wasn’t intercepted. Prescott did run in for a score, which made up for his lack of touchdown throws.
Dak Prescott finished as the QB7 for week two in standard scoring leagues (4 points for TD pass).
He is beginning to have some value in certain match ups until Tony Romo comes back.
RB Ezekiel Elliott
I thought Ezekiel Elliott had a nice day, despite his two fumbles. But many people are already calling for Alfred Morris to be the starter.
That just isn’t going to happen. Elliott is this team’s best running back.
The problem he keeps running into is the 8-man defensive fronts that many of the top backs around the league are facing. As Dak Prescott continues to improve, or when Tony Romo returns, teams will have to begin accounting for the passing game. This will help open up the run.
Ezekiel Elliott scored a touchdown for the second straight game. Combine that with his 87 total yards and he had a good week.
The rookie is going to get the hang of this at some point.
Just be patient.
RB Alfred Morris
Alfred Morris‘ touch count was down from what he received in week one and he wasn’t very efficient.
For the day, he carried the ball five times for seven yards and scored the game winning touchdown late in the 4th quarter.
Important to note is Morris took the hand-offs on first and second down as the Dallas Cowboys tried to close out the game. I still envision this being Ezekiel Elliott’s backfield, but Alfred Morris will see about 8-10 touches per game.
WR Dez Bryant
I hope you were the beneficiary of someone in your league trying to unload Dez Bryant.
Dez Bryant is still Dez Bryant.
In week one, Dez Bryant, was schemed out of the game by the coaching staff.
In week two, Bryant was who we thought he was.
Dez Bryant went for seven catches on 12 targets for 102 yards. He was a force throughout and showed us why he is one of the top 5-10 wide receivers in the league.
As long as the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff continues to run Bryant on more than just deep routes, he is going to have productive days for your fantasy football team.
WR Cole Beasley
Take note that I listed Cole Beasley as the second wide receiver here. It isn’t by chance.
There is a reason.
In the first two games of the season, Cole Beasley has been targeted 18 times, has 13 catches, a 72.2% catch rate, and 140 yards receiving. He is the outright leader in every category aside from targets, which he shares with Jason Witten.
Cole Beasley and Dak Prescott have developed a rapport and Beasley has become a legit number two wide receiver on this team.
WR Terrance Williams
Not much to say since Terrance Williams wasn’t targeted in the passing game. Williams was lined up across from Josh Norman for much of the day, but it also seems that he has taken a back seat to Cole Beasley in the offensive game plan.
As was the case in week one for Dez Bryant, the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff schemed Williams out of the game. A fair trade-off to get your best offensive player involved.
TE Jason Witten
Targets dropped dramatically from 14 in week one to just four in week two.
Jason Witten was still efficient with his opportunities, catching three of those four targets for 51 yards.
Jason Witten will continue to get his chances. I think his target numbers will eventually average out to about 5-7 targets per game.
He is still a low end TE 1.
TE Geoff Swaim
The Dallas Cowboys may have finally found the number two tight end they were looking for in Geoff Swaim.
Although he only had two targets, he converted those into two catches for 29 yards. The coaching staff and the quarterback have a trust level with Swaim and he will continue to chances.
K Dan Bailey
There isn’t much to say about Dan Bailey, except, he is just greatness.
He went 2/2 on field goal attempts and 3/3 on extra points. He’s as good as it gets in the NFL. Bailey is now 6/6 on the season in field goals. For his career he’s now made 90.9% of his kicks.
Very glad he belongs to Cowboys Nation.
The Dallas Cowboys Defense
The Dallas Cowboys defense wasn’t great, but they made enough plays when it mattered to win the game. They finished with two sacks and a Barry Church interception in the end zone.
Typically, you’ll want to avoid them as a team defense, but next week against the Chicago Bears might be the right time to start ’em.
