All around the Dallas Cowboys defense, young players are getting chances to prove themselves for Rod Marinelli. Many of them are doing just that for the NFC East leading Cowboys at 5-1 on the season – coming off of wins against Andy Dalton and the Bengals followed by Aaron Rodgers and the Packers at Lambeau.
With three forced fumbles and a sack in the Packers game, explosive defensive end David Irving was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week. One of these forced fumbles was recovered by Irving himself, creating a pivotal red zone turnover for a Cowboys defense that took the ball away four times in week six.

Irving has seen increased work along the defensive line as the high-motor player that we saw in 2015 and has learned to play with even more technique and skill to couple with his freakish athleticism and size.
Even more impressively though, Irving turned in his disruptive performance against Green Bay with just 19 snaps, making a case for the bigger workloads that he has also seen this year to come his way more often.
