Emmitt Smith Gives Insight on Cowboys’ Missing Championship Piece

The ongoing Dallas Cowboys offseason is rightfully about one thing and one thing only – building this team into the perennial Super Bowl contender that emerged in front of our eyes in 2016. There will be roster comparisons to past championship teams in Dallas, and this purely mathematical look at how the 2017 Cowboys already resemble the 1992 Super Bowl team is just a start via Staff Writer RJ Ochoa.

What we know is that the Cowboys have their running back in Ezekiel Elliott, as they did throughout the 1990’s dynasty with Emmitt Smith – who is with former Cowboys greats (coaches and players alike) for the #Cowboys25 celebration this weekend.

In tying this amazing event to the 2017 Dallas Cowboys, Smith offered this quote on what Dallas is missing in order to win their sixth Lombardi Trophy and first since 1996.

It is no secret at all that the Hall of Fame running back’s thinking here lines up with how many in Cowboys Nation have approached this offseason. Immediately following another playoff loss to Aaron Rodgers, the screams for an improved pass rush began once again.

As the days go by, counting us down to the return of Cowboys football, will they be able to find their next Charles Haley? If they do, according to Emmitt Smith, they’ll have another Super Bowl reunion party to play sooner than later.

Fortunately, the next event on the league schedule is the NFL Scouting Combine, and the Cowboys are going to get good looks at a slew of defensive ends that can make a difference as rookies. As a whole, this 2017 NFL Draft class lines up with the Cowboys needs incredibly well, and you know upcoming Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Jones is as motivated as ever to use this draft in putting America’s Team back on top.
