If you drafted Dez Bryant, you are likely already pinning his week one injury as the reason your team will not be successful this year. However, the season is young and the receiver market plentiful!
Here is my top 10 entering week 2:
Julio Jones
Jones is coming off of a monster game against the Eagles, in which he had 26.10 points in a standard NFL.com league.
While he did not practice yesterday, all signs are pointing to Matt Ryan’s number one target suiting up at MetLife Stadium against the Giants on Sunday.
The Giants’ secondary was anything but great against Dallas, and review of the film showed that they even got a bit lucky – leaving Dez Bryant uncovered downfield and not being beat.
Antonio Brown
Brown and Bryant were the top receivers in this draft, so if you have Brown – play him. He will be playing at home against a 49ers secondary that allowed 231 yards to Teddy Bridgewater.
Albeit, they won the game – but I expect a letdown type game from San Francisco and a bounce back from Big Ben and the Steelers.
Terrance Williams
Stepping up to fill the shoes of Dez Bryant for the Cowboys will be Terrance Williams.
Williams is in his third year, a peak season for wideouts. He was also prepared during training camp to be the team’s top target. While the loss of Dez will be clearly visible, expect speedster Terrance Williams to carve up the Philadephia secondary on Sunday.
Calvin Johnson Jr.
Johnson’s fantasy value has rapidly decreased over the past seasons, but he has a favorable match-up this week. After being nearly shut down in a loss to the Chargers, he will go up against a grossly undersized Minnesota secondary.
Expect Stafford and Johnson to bounce back, hitting on a number of big passing plays.
Brandin Cooks
The Saints’ offense was held in check enough in week 1 for the Cardinals to pull out a home win. However, there is hope for Brandin Cooks returning home to face the battered Buccaneers.
78% of Brees’ yards in week one came after the catch. That absurd number leaves reason to believe the Super Dome will be rocking on Sunday.
DeAndre Hopkins
Houston will be rolling with Ryan Mallett as the starter in Carolina, so look for them to heavily utilize top target DeAndre Hopkins. Hopkins was thrown to 13 times in last week’s win over the Chiefs.
Mallett has the arm strength to throw the ball downfield, and Hopkins possesses the vertical ability to make the two an explosive ditto.
A.J Green
Green struggled against the Raiders in week 1, but should bounce back nicely at home against San Diego. Andy Dalton is better at home, and this matchup projects to be relatively high scoring. Green should crack most starting lineups this week.
Jordan Matthews
Matthews had 13 catches for 102 yards against the Falcons, and is the big bodied receiver that could give the Cowboys secondary trouble. The storyline in Philly will be the Cowboys’ defense trying to stop now Eagle DeMarco Murray – but the difference will come in the passing game.
While Dallas will rely on speedy receivers and a strong running attack, Chip Kelly will throw the ball all over the yard. This is very good news for Matthews’ owners.
Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham did not dazzle against Dallas, but his return home will give him a chance to do so against Atlanta. New York has owned the Falcons at home in recent history, and it’s safe to think that the gameplan will be to get Beckham back into the offense in a big way.
Beckham could also be the Giants’ answer to their red zone woes, by being an athletic target near the endzone.
John Brown
Brown is a threat to take any catch to the house, which means he likely will against the bad news Bears’ defense. Brown found the endzone in a week 1 win over the Saints.
The Cardinals are out to prove that they can pick up where they left off in 2014, and won’t let Chicago stand in their way.
