Let’s get this Hump Day going in style! We’re at the halfway point of the week, which can only mean one thing…my weekly kickball game is tomorrow. You should all know that last week I had a sweet play where I stole third AND home, as my team went on to rout our opponents.
Speaking of routing I’m going to give you a map. It doesn’t have any landmarks or instructions or directions of any kind really, but it will get you somewhere. So sit back and stay focused as I guide you towards the Greatest 46 in Dallas Cowboys History.

Make Your Mark
The number 46 boils down to one cool Cowboy, Mark Washington. As a member of the Dallas Cowboys’ 1970 NFL Draft Class (taken in the 13th round) Mark contributed right away. He was one of the more athletic people on the entire team, a trait that he exemplified greatly when he returned a kickoff 100 yards all the way to the house against the Washington Redskins on November 22nd, 1970.
Washington would continue to make plays in his rookie year of 1970 as he blocked an extra point in Super Bowl V. The Cowboys would go on to lose the game, but Washington had certainly made his mark on the Dallas Cowboys special teams unit.
X Marks The Spot
While he was initially waived in 1971 Washington managed to rejoin the team and be a part of the Super Bowl VI winning squad. When Herb Adderley called it a career in 1973 the left cornerback position was open for grabs… but like many other things Charlie Waters intercepted it and Mark was stuck in backup duty.
1975 finally called Mark Washington’s number 46 as he started all 14 games and helped the Cowboys reach Super Bowl X against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Washington’s performance in the game is most remembered for his participation in one of the greatest plays in Super Bowl History.
With just over three minutes left in the first half, Terry Bradshaw launched one down the right side towards wide receiver Lynn Swann. Washington managed to get a hand on the ball tipping it upward, Swann tipped it himself, and Lynn swan dove for one of the more acrobatic catches of all-time.
#46: Mk Washington
While ultimately 12 Cowboys have donned the number 46, Mark Washington outlasts each one of them.
He played 9 seasons for the Cowboys, hitting the turf in five Super Bowls, two of which he helped win (VI and XII).
Mark Washington played almost the entire 70s decade in blue and silver which is enough to earn him the Greatest 46 in Dallas Cowboys History.
