The sun is out which means that your guns need to be, especially considering that it’s Tank Top Tuesday. The Dallas Cowboys probably won’t be sporting tank tops but headphones and iPads as they board planes today and set sail for Training Camp!
It’s happening, it’s really happening! Football season in all her splendor is practically here. To be specific the first day that counts is 47 days away, and we’ll inch our way closer to it by discussing the Greatest 47 in Dallas Cowboys History.

1980 was a great year for Cowboy fans as that season saw the Philadelphia Eagles lose Super Bowl XV. It was also a great time to be a Cowboy as the franchise stumbled upon a free agent safety that would fit in quite nicely.
Dextor Clinkscale
The strong safety out of South Carolina State (say that five times fast!) was a pretty productive player for the Cowboys of the early 1980s.
Dextor played in every game his rookie season before tearing his ACL and missing the whole 1981 season. Clinkscale rebounded in 1983 when he was finally named the starting strong safety. He would have a career year in 1985, totaling 100 tackles and 3 interceptions.

The number 47 doesn’t have the same level of glitz and glamour that others do in franchise history; however, Dextor Clinkscale did the number justice. He helped the Cowboy defense survive the transition from Doomsday and served as a bridge until the next great safety arrived in 1986, Bill Bates.
Clinkscale started 46 of 71 games for America’s Team and compiled 9 interceptions, 7 sacks, and 9 fumble recoveries. Altogether this is an impressive enough resume to deem Dextor Clinkscale the Greatest 47 in Dallas Cowboys History.
