The Dallas Cowboys appear to have a world of options in front of them this off season leading up to the NFL Draft – where they will select with the fourth overall pick. Before Myles Jack, Jalen Ramsey (who sits atop the imaginary Cowboys draft board at the moment), Joey Bosa, Laquon Treadwell, Jared Goff, Ezekiel Elliot or Carson Wentz come into discussion we must first get through free agency.
As far as free agent quarterbacks for 2015, there are certainly some appetizing names. As Mike Fisher said on our Cowboys Cast, the team will need to look under every rock to ensure the quarterback situation is improved for 2016.
The following signal callers are all free agents this off season (list provided by Spotrac.com):

After this list, the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns are expected to part ways shortly with Robert Griffin III and Johnny Manziel. While the Cowboys have no intent on touching the troubled “Johnny Football”, Griffin III could at least warrant a workout with the team to evaluate his skills after a year off from playing.
While the vast majority of these names are completely laughable, including 2015 Cowboys quarterbacks Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel, there is potential for Dallas to find a few “diamonds in the rough”.
However, Fisher also goes on to explain in the interview that it would be foolish for the team to view one of these free agent quarterbacks as the only piece needed at the position. A drafted quarterback, whether it be at fourth overall or in the later rounds, could potentially be a franchise guy for a decade after Tony Romo.
While bringing in a veteran like Ryan Fitzpatrick could allow the Cowboys to grab an outstanding talent who will make an immediate impact in the first round of the draft, late round options like Jeff Driskel and Dak Prescott have to be in play.
While we can all rejoice that Tony Romo will start the season in 2016 as the Cowboys quarterback, it is more than time for this team to begin planning for life without #9 – by looking under every rock this off season.
