Dez Bryant Facing Lawsuit, Still Focused On 2016

June is a slow month when it comes to NFL news. This is a subject that I touched on during this week’s episode of the RJOShow, and we’re starting to see it ripple into the world of our Dallas Cowboys. This time it’s a story that, shockingly, paints Dez Bryant in a bit of a negative light. News broke on Wednesday that Bryant is facing a lawsuit from his former landlord over allegations that exceed $60,000 in damages regarding a house that he once leased. The suit in question is being filed by Texas State Senator Royce West, who’s name you’ve heard before.

Darius Jackson Will Take Advantage Of His Opportunity

Thanks to Darren McFadden’s poor judgment to try to save his phone from dropping and his broken elbow that seems to be made of glass, rookie running back Darius Jackson now has the opportunity to receive more practice repetitions and catch the eye of the coaching staff. The Dallas Cowboys were intrigued enough by Jackson’s athletic ability, that they decided to draft him in the six round of the 2016 NFL Draft, despite already drafting Ezekiel Elliott 4th overall in the first round. I will admit that when Darius Jackson’s name was announced as becoming a member of the Dallas Cowboys, I was a little shocked. I thought to myself where is this guy going to fit in knowing that they just drafted Zeke Elliott and they also signed veteran running back Alfred Morris to a three-year contract in the off-season? Not to mention, the Cowboys still had the fourth leading rusher in 2015 Darren McFadden still on the roster.

Cowboys Sophomores: TE Geoff Swaim

The 2016 training camp for the Dallas Cowboys is approaching quickly, as the team will hit the fields in Oxnard, California late next month. Beginning the process of bettering themselves and shaping the roster for a hopeful return to the NFC’s supremacy this season, the summer heat is surely going to bring out some intense competition. As we have seen under Head Coach Jason Garrett, the lower spots on the Cowboys’ roster are constantly being battled for by a multitude of players – perhaps with no better example than in this upcoming camp. One position that will force Dallas to make some interesting decisions on the depth chart is the tight end spot, where a lot could happen behind future Hall of Fame inductee Jason Witten. A second-year player that will be looking to take a big step up is Geoff Swaim, who the Cowboys traded a pick for in order to select Swaim with their last selection in 2015 at 246 overall.

NFC East Position Outlook: The Linebacker Squads

It’s been a while since we last visited the NFC East battle for supremacy. With only a few groups remaining, let’s finally return to this journey to explore the linebackers of this division. Dallas Cowboys For my money, the Dallas Cowboys linebacker corp is the most interesting position group in the entire division. Purely “on paper” talent-wise, the Cowboys have the best linebackers. Between Sean Lee, Rolando McClain, and newly drafted Jaylon Smith, there is a ton of talent in this group.

Dallas Cowboys: Pre-Training Camp 53 Man Roster Projection

The Dallas Cowboys have officially closed out their OTA and mini-camp practices, and won’t take the field again as a team until July 30 in Oxnard, California at the start of training camp. That’s not to say that players won’t continue working out or practicing on their own, it just means that we have about a month before any official practices get underway once again. This is a slow time in regards to any Dallas Cowboys related news, and unfortunately any news that makes headlines is probably going to be of the negative nature (let’s hope that doesn’t happen). Tony Romo’s Impact Is Even Greater Than You Think

Yesterday, I detailed why I felt that the NFL’s trend of team rushing yard leaders having mediocre finishes could be debunked by this year’s Dallas Cowboys. The main reason I felt this was true, was that those same yards must be converted to touchdowns to have a quantifiable impact on the game, in most cases. I also discussed how the Cowboys offense is very different from those who led the league in rushing before them. Teams like the Denver Broncos in 2011 and the New York Jets in 2009; they had no where near the offensively that this Cowboys team has when healthy. But this argument centers around just one man:

Is Lucky Whitehead’s Roster Spot Secure?

A month ago, I wrote an article about whether or not an expanded role was in the future for Lucky Whitehead, and now I’m questioning if there will even be a roster spot available for Whitehead once the final cuts are made. Don’t get me wrong, Lucky Whitehead has an intriguing skill set that could be used in several different ways for an offensive coordinator as creative as Scott Linehan, but he’s facing some stiff competition at the wide receiver position. In 2015, Whitehead was mostly utilized on special teams returning punts and kickoffs. Toward the end of the season he started to get more time on offense in the Lance Dunbar type of role. They used Lucky Whitehead on jet sweeps and as a receiver out of the backfield the same way they used Dunbar before his injury.

Jaylon Smith: Battling The Uncontrollable

The Dallas Cowboys provided a jaw-dropping moment in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, when they decided to write linebacker Jaylon Smith’s name down on their draft card. Why in the world would they draft a linebacker so highly when there’s a chance he may have to sit out the entire 2016 season? Well, Smith’s selection is based more on his future potential and that he can fully recover from a devastating knee injury that also caused nerve damage. If he can fully recover and become the player he was at Notre Dame, then the Cowboys would’ve drafted a player that is arguably the best defensive player in the entire 2016 NFL Draft. Can you say draft day steal?

What Will Determine Cowboys Rushing Success?

The construction of the Dallas Cowboys offense reached it’s climax of sorts during this years draft when we all heard those incredible words: The Dallas Cowboys select Ezekiel Elliott, running back, Ohio State University. The entire NFL world erupted. Whether you thought the pick was awful because the devaluating of the running back position over the years has shown us that investing too much into a back can be dangerous, or you thought the pick was fantastic as it solidified an offense that had already shown how great it could be, you had an opinion. And a strong one at that.
