2016 Dallas Cowboys Will Play With A New Attitude

The Dallas Cowboys disastrous 2015 season can be attributed to one thing and one thing only…injuries. It’s difficult enough to win games in the NFL when your football team is 100% healthy, but when you’re missing several of your key members it’s nearly impossible to be a competitive ball team. That’s exactly what happened to the Cowboys and one of the reasons why there are high hopes for the upcoming 2016 season. Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, Orlando Scandrick are arguably the top players at their respective positions on the Cowboys roster, and all three missed significant time due to injuries last season. Even running back Lance Dunbar was beginning to show what kind of weapon he can be until once again an injury cut his season short.

Roster Moves: Cowboys Sign Two Defensive Backs

The Dallas Cowboys addressed the vacant roster spots left by Terrance Mitchell and Brandon McGee, who were released last Friday by signing two defensive backs today. No, it isn’t Brandon Boykin who worked out for the Cowboys earlier, but it does add depth to the Cowboys secondary. According to Rob Phillips via twitter, the Cowboys decided to sign veteran cornerbacks Isaiah Frey and Dax Swanson. Isaiah Frey was a sixth round draft pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2012 NFL Draft. He played his college ball at Nevada.

Cowboys Sophomores: LB Damien Wilson

It is no secret that the defensive unit for the Dallas Cowboys will be looking for play makers wherever they may come from in 2016. While Cowboys Nation will focus on the offense when it comes to replicating the winning ways of 2014 with rookie Ezekiel Elliott joining the established Tony Romo and Dez Bryant, the defense from that dominant season forced 31 turnovers – good for the second highest total in the league. This “Cowboys Sophomores” series has already profiled a few young defenders that could help Dallas in this regard, such as pass rusher Ryan Russell and hybrid safety Byron Jones.  Another player that hopes to add his name to this mix is linebacker Damien Wilson, who was selected in the fourth round by the Cowboys in the 2015 Draft. When it comes to Defensive Coordinator Rod Marinelli, you can never have enough depth along the front-seven of your defense.

NFC East Position Rankings: Offensive Line

Last time, we finally dove into the analysis of the NFC East’s linemen. Though we started by taking a look at what many consider the more “athletic” bigs, let’s now rank the big uglies across this division. Dallas Cowboys After talking about the potentially disastrous defensive line last time, let’s move on to greener pastures in Dallas. I don’t know if any offensive line on the planet is discussed more than the Dallas Cowboys’ “Great Wall of Dallas.” Of course, Travis Frederick anchors the middle as the center, Zack Martin and La’el Collins start as the guards, and Doug Free and Tyron Smith serve as the starting tackles.

4 Cowboys Players Primed To Make First Pro Bowl

The Dallas Cowboys are no strangers to sending several of their players to the Pro Bowl each year and despite the drastically different seasons the last two years, the Cowboys still had quite a few players headed to Hawaii. Just in case you may have forgotten, the Cowboys finished with a winning record of 12-4 in 2014, but the following season in 2015 those numbers flip-flopped and they finished with a losing record of 4-12. I guess I’m just like any other fan and I really enjoy the anticipation of finding out who might be voted into the Pro Bowl each year, but it’s those first year participants that I truly enjoy finding out about. After the completion of the 2014 season, the Dallas Cowboys had six players voted into the Pro Bowl. Tony Romo, DeMarco Murray, Dez Bryant, Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, and Zack Martin all made the trip to Hawaii.

Impact Potential for Anthony Brown and Kavon Frazier

The Cowboys took four players in the sixth round of last April’s NFL Draft. Two of them were cornerback Anthony Brown and safety Kavon Frazier. Given that both guys play in the secondary, I thought we’d take a quick look at what role they could serve this year and how they may affect each other. On Friday Dallas released defensive backs Terrance Mitchell and Brandon McGee.  While the Cowboys may be adding other cornerbacks and safeties to fill those spots, the moves could signify that they like what they’ve seen from their rookie players in the secondary.

Will Devin Street be Next Casualty From 2014 Draft?

Yesterday Dallas released defensive back Terrance Mitchell, a former seventh-round pick in their 2014 class. He joins Ben Gardner, Ahmad Dixon, Ken Bishop, and Will Smith as players who did not last long with the Cowboys. Is wide receiver Devin Street about to join them? A fifth-round pick from that year, Street has yet get much traction in Dallas. In two seasons he has nine catches for 132 yards and one touchdown.

Are Any Of The Cowboys Defensive Players Irreplaceable?

The Dallas Cowboys, much like other teams around the NFL have players that are more important to the organization than others. That is simply the sad truth of the National Football League. I like to think of these players as being irreplaceable. These are the types of players that can pretty much ruin a season if they have to miss any length of time due to an injury. Unfortunately, this is something that we as Cowboys fans have recently had to deal with and something that can hopefully be avoided in the upcoming 2016 season.

Roster Moves: Cowboys Release Terrance Mitchell; Waive Brandon McGee

The world of the Dallas Cowboys is always spinning, even in June, and on Friday the spin spun out two members of the roster. As it is indeed June the roster moves (like the ones Staff Writer Sean Martin wrote about here) aren’t ever that surprising to Cowboys Nation. For what it’s worth the waiving of Brandon McGee, no offense to him, falls in that category. The release of Terrance Mitchell has a lot of people scratching their heads, though. Mitchell played fairly well in the final games of the 2015 season, and it was just recently that he was actually being worked out at the Safety position.

Previously on Tweet Break here at Inside The Star, we have looked at some of the best sights and sounds from the ongoing Cowboys OTA practices. This week, we will take a bit of a break from that, as the week-that-was in the Twitterverse left us with plenty of other fascinating nuggets related in some way to America’s Team.
