Brandon Boykin: Cowboys Meeting With Free Agent CB

According to reports, the Cowboys are going to meet with free agent cornerback Brandon Boykin. In his fifth year after being a fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles, Boykin has had a hard time finding work. He was actually signed one to a one-year flier by the Carolina Panthers in March but was later released. Boykin had six interceptions in the 2013 season but did not keep the same production the following yet. The Eagles traded him to Pittsburgh for the final year of his rookie contract.

Gil Brandt Predicting Bounce Back Year For The Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have entered their third week of organized team activities (OTA’s) and minicamp practices are just around the corner. If you believe the talk by those people who have been fortunate enough to watch some of these OTA’s, then you probably already know that it looks as if the Cowboys players are practicing with a greater sense of urgency and a renewed energy. Former Vice President of player personnel for the Dallas Cowboys, Gil Brandt, was on hand to watch two different OTA practices last week and shared a lot of interesting observations based on what he saw from the team as a whole and from individual players. Brandt was a key part of the Cowboys organization from 1960 up until 1989 when the  Jerry Jones era began. At age 83, Brandt is still a well-recognized voice of opinion around the NFL and currently contributes as a senior analyst for NFL.

Cowboys Sophomores: WR Lucky Whitehead

When you look at the projected starters for the 2016 Dallas Cowboys on offense, it is difficult to look past QB Tony Romo, WR Dez Bryant, and now rookie RB Ezekiel Elliott. For Offensive Coordinator Scott Linehan, these are the three players that will most closely determine the success of the Dallas offense. However, a healthy passing duo of Romo and Bryant combined with the rushing attack Elliott will provide certainly opens up opportunities for other players to thrive against unsuspecting defenses. Perhaps no player on the roster fits this role better than Lucky Whitehead at the moment. Signed as an undrafted free agent entering 2015, Whitehead found his role by contributing mostly as a kickoff return specialist early in the year.

NFC East Position Rankings: The Wide-Outs

After assessing the divisions’ signal callers in the last installment of the series, why not take a look at the main targets in the passing games of each offense. Today we will discuss possibly the best position group in the entire division, a group which features superstars such as Dez Bryant, Odell Beckham, and Desean Jackson, the wide receivers. Dallas Cowboys Outside of star player and weekly beast Dez Bryant, the Cowboys’ receivers have been much maligned throughout this offseason. Two seasons ago, players like Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley were considered to be the perfect compliments to Dez Bryant in the Cowboys dynamic offense. But after injuries to both Bryant and quarterback Tony Romo resulted in lackluster years from Dallas’ receivers, this group has a lot to prove in the eyes of many this season.

Muhammad Ali: Current and Former Cowboys Honor the Legend

The late Muhammad Ali goes on a very short list of all-time athletes. His greatness transcended his sport to make a significant impact on American culture and the social issues of his time. As such, it’s no surprise than many Dallas Cowboys players took a moment to show some respect to his passing. Two of the all-time greats from Cowboys history paid homage to Ali: On the other end of their Cowboys careers, the top two from our 2016 rookie class also chimed in.

Sundays Without Football: Lucky Whitehead Hits The Streets Of Dallas

June 5th marked the first Sunday in which Cowboys Nation was officially inside of 100 days left until America’s Team hits the field for the first time in 2016. It was actually 98 days, or 14 weeks, until the toe meets the ball at AT&T Stadium with the New York Giants in town. So think back to what you were doing this past Sunday late in the afternoon and fast forward till then… you’ll be watching the Dallas Cowboys racing across the field in their trademark white uniforms. If you were strolling around Dallas this past Sunday then you might’ve actually seen a Dallas Cowboy racing around town wearing something white – Lucky Whitehead in a Ferrari!

Is Terrance Williams Ready To Fight For His Job?

The Dallas Cowboys will have a lot of position battles that will be interesting to keep track of throughout the remainder of the off-season. One position battle that I know I will be keeping a close eye on will be at wide receiver. There is a lot of speculation that Terrance Williams might get demoted if Brice Butler steps up his game the way a lot of people are expecting. Butler showed quite a few flashes in 2015 that he can be a valued member on offense, but he also struggled with reoccurring injuries throughout the season. I’m actually looking forward to see what Butler can do with a full off-season with the Cowboys organization and hopefully a better chance to develop a bond with quarterback Tony Romo.

Cowboys Sophomores: DE Ryan Russell

There are few players on the Dallas Cowboys that go as under-the-radar as DE Ryan Russell. The state of the team’s pass rush has been talked about endlessly this off season, with every single defensive linemen – from the experienced to the inexperienced – being challenged to step up. Ryan Russell certainly hopes to factor into this equation, after being drafted by the Cowboys in 2015 with the 163rd overall pick in the 5th round. Rookie defensive linemen often face a tough adjustment when they come to the NFL, and this was likely going to be especially true for the Purdue University product in Russell. Spending his final two collegiate seasons in a 3-4 defense, Ryan was going to need some serious work with Rod Marinelli to develop into a consistent edge rusher for the Cowboys.

NFC East Position Rankings: The Quarterbacks

For decades, the NFC East was the most competitive and most feared division in all of football. In fact, an NFC East team participated in six of the nine Super Bowls played between the 1987 and 1995 seasons. However if you were to refer to the NFC East as the most competitive and most feared division in all of football today, you’d be only half right. Lacking a repeat champion since 2004, the division has become a source of parity while still maintaining the highly regarded and nationally viewed rivalry games which have become a staple of the NFL. After a horrid season a year ago where it looked as if a 7-9 team could steal the division at many points during the year, the NFC East looks to be improved and ready to begin to return to its old school form.

Could Nick Hayden Return to Dallas?

Last March the Cowboys elected to let three-year starter Nick Hayden walk away as a free agent. Always more of a coach’s darling than an analytics favorite, Hayden stuck around as long as he did for his work ethic and attitude over actual performance. The Cowboys finally decided they needed more and moved on. Hayden remains a free agent right now. Dallas signed Cedric Thornton from the Eagles to play beside Tyrone Crawford.
