Guys that can cover–it’s the phrase we all hear on a daily basis with the way that the NFL game is played nowadays. With the recent injury to Brandon Carr, and Orlando Scandrick experiencing knee soreness, the Dallas Cowboys cornerbacks depth is going to be tested.
The front office tried to address the secondary in the offseason and through the draft, but there are still questions as we head toward the start of the 2015 season
How will Morris Claiborne recover from a torn patellar tendon?
He certainly worked his tail off to be ready for the start of training camp. He’s seemed to approach this year’s camp with an attitude and a desire to show that he is, in fact, an NFL corner.
What can Byron Jones bring?
Jones certainly looks the part. The coaching staff has put him outside, in the slot, free safety and even dime linebacker. He has looked comfortable at all positions and is proving that no position seems too big for him to be successful.
Is Tyler Patmon ready to make the jump to the next level?
The one thing that we do know, he’s ready to fight and won’t back down from any challenge, which is his biggest attribute.
What Position does Corey White play?
His best position is the slot corner but has also shown the ability to play free safety. However, you also have to remember that he was replaced in the Saints lineup after being a starter for nine games.
Is there another player currently on the roster that will jump up and make a play?
I’ve got to be honest, I hadn’t even heard of Patmon until his pick six last preseason.
These are just some of the questions that will start to be answered with the first preseason game on Thursday against the San Diego Chargers, and they don’t even address Scandrick and Carr.
I’m going to be very interested to see the different combinations and positions that the coaching staff puts out onto the field this season.
