The inevitable is upon us. Tony Romo’s release from the Dallas Cowboys.
The top story of the ongoing NFL offseason is the future of Cowboys QB Tony Romo, and according to this report, a significant move towards his future not being with America’s Team is upon us. Today, Wednesday March 8th, 2017, could be Romo’s last with the Dallas Cowboys.
Update: Adam Schefter and Todd Archer are also reporting that the Cowboys will release Tony Romo on Thursday 3/9.
A Tony Romo release has felt like a foregone conclusion for a few weeks now, truthfully ever since Dak Prescott – in Romo’s own words – earned the job that belonged to #9 for the past decade.
Cowboys Nation shouldn’t expect a trade at this point, as other teams have expected Romo to be released all along. The bidding war for his services could begin within 24 hours, and initial interest has been sparked by the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos.

The Cowboys and their fans respectively will still have to move forward this offseason in managing the cap to retain some key free agents (Brice Butler was re-signed this morning) and preparing for the 2017 NFL Draft.
