When it comes to needs to address in the NFL Draft there are the obvious ones. Everyone knows the Cowboys are in need of offensive line, defensive line, safety but what about running back? Yes they could go with an undrafted free agent once again or they could actually draft one. The fourth round by my estimation should be a good round for activity with running backs.
There are three running backs that have recently visited Valley Ranch that would make an immediate impact on this team. As much as I like Phillip Tanner and Lance Dunbar they aren’t a viable option to carry the load when or if DeMarco Murray goes down.
Stepfan Taylor
There is probably no better all-around back that could be available in the fourth than Taylor. He has had 1,100 yards or more in three consecutive seasons. So you know he is consistent part of the running game on top of catching the ball out of the backfield. He can block as well which would make him a great addition to this team.
Le’Veon Bell
Bell is a big bruising back that can help punish the defense. He can also take punishment with his frame at 6’2” and 230 pounds. Bell started every game for the last three seasons but this past year Bell had his most productive season. He rushed for 1,740 yards and 13 touchdowns. He can catch the ball out of the backfield, he isn’t the most productive there but definitely not a liability.
Joseph Randle
Randle is the smallest of the three but most likely to be the best option for the Cowboys. Bell and Taylor could be gone and Randle isn’t a terrible third option. Much like Bell he has been more productive lately but he has always been an integral part of the Oklahoma State offense. He will be a great change of pace backup for Murray. Not to mention Randle can be a return man if he is called upon as he did so as a freshmen.
I might sound crazy, but I think we should grab 2 of these adolescent backs!
I think that they could do that, but that would mean that they are looking to definitely move on from DeMarco Murray.
I never understood the lovefest with Tanner. He just isn’t that good. He doesn’t have any wiggle and he can’t cut. He rounds off his cuts.
I think it has a lot to do with that pre-season run in which his helmet popped off. I don’t think he’s anything more than a down hill runner.
