Why Aren’t The Cowboys Looking For Veteran Pass-Rush Help?

After the NFL Draft, and before the official opening of training camp, you don’t really want to get any news about your favorite team. While it makes the jobs of those who are paid to talk about sports much easier during the football downtime, most June/July football news … Read more

Cowboys Taking a Leap of Faith on Benson Mayowa

Who do you think the highest-paid defensive end on the 2016 Dallas Cowboys is? No, it’s not DeMarcus Lawrence. He’s just in the third year of his rookie contract, counting a meager $1.5 million against the salary cap. Randy Gregory, also a second-round pick and in his just … Read more

Cowboys Nation Chooses Defensive Ends to Start 2016

By now, if you’re a loyal follower of the Dallas Cowboys, you are already tired of the team’s off season talk being centered around the dreary situation Rod Marinelli and the Cowboys’ defense finds themselves in entering 2016. Cowboys Sophomores: DE Randy Gregory

Over the past two seasons, the Dallas Cowboys defense has amassed a whopping 59 total sacks. For perspective, the 2014 Buffalo Bills had 54 sacks on their own and the Denver Broncos Super Bowl 50 winning pass rush had 52 this past season. The need to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks has been evident in Dallas for a long time, and their most recent big investment towards fixing this has already turned himself into an unstable question mark for 2016. Randy Gregory was the Cowboys second round pick in the 2015 NFL draft. The front office put a lot of trust in the troubled pass rushing product out of Nebraska, and are now facing the reality of playing without Gregory for the first four games of 2016 after another failed drug test led to his suspension.

Dallas Cowboys: Training Camp Position Battles

The Dallas Cowboys are not your typical 4-12 team. The majority of their starting positions are locked in and because of that, the organization will have some difficult decisions to make when they start to figure out their final 53 man roster. Fortunately, they still have an entire training camp and four preseason games to keep a close watchful eye over all of their players. They have plenty of time to figure out who’s in and who’s out. Now, they won’t be calling me to ask for my personal opinion, but I will be keeping an eye on some of the position battles taking place to determine for myself who makes the final cut.

Mini-Camp Injury Update: Darren McFadden and Benson Mayowa Out

For the Dallas Cowboys, the start of mini-camp was supposed to be a relatively exciting time. Cowboys Nation was eager to cross off another item on the checklist that will lead up to the 2016 season. While the now-mandatory practices will still closely resemble the light OTA work the Cowboys were doing, the team was also planning on slowly accumulating the likes of Dez Bryant and Orlando Scandrick back onto the football field. This morning, Dallas received even more good news, as Rolando McClain and Ronald Leary reported to practice. By the early afternoon though, the day had taken a sour turn for Jason Garrett’s squad.

Roster Moves: Dallas Cowboys Replace 3 Players

The Dallas Cowboys have made some changes to the bottom of their roster, releasing three players to sign new ones at each of their positions. No longer with the team is LB Jarrell Harris, DE Caleb Azubike, and OT Justin Renfrow. Taking their places are LB Brandon Hepburn, DE Lawrence Okoye, and OT Bryan Witzmann. The most notable player from this group is likely Okoye, who is a former British Olympic discus athlete. The defensive end has seen time with the 49ers, Cardinals, and most recently the New York Jets.

Cowboys Sophomores: DE Ryan Russell

There are few players on the Dallas Cowboys that go as under-the-radar as DE Ryan Russell. The state of the team’s pass rush has been talked about endlessly this off season, with every single defensive linemen – from the experienced to the inexperienced – being challenged to step up. Ryan Russell certainly hopes to factor into this equation, after being drafted by the Cowboys in 2015 with the 163rd overall pick in the 5th round. Rookie defensive linemen often face a tough adjustment when they come to the NFL, and this was likely going to be especially true for the Purdue University product in Russell. Spending his final two collegiate seasons in a 3-4 defense, Ryan was going to need some serious work with Rod Marinelli to develop into a consistent edge rusher for the Cowboys.
