Mike Zimmer has done a great job with the Minnesota Vikings this season, building up a lot of hype coming into this week 13 match up with his former Dallas Cowboys squad.
Unfortunately, as these two NFC foes meet tonight, Zimmer will not be doing the coaching anymore. Taken in for emergency eye surgery yesterday, his status for this game was certainly in jeopardy – and now he is officially out.
Vikings' HC Mike Zimmer is out for tonight's game vs. Dallas, recovering from emergency eye surgery for a detached retina.

Our Staff Writer RJ Ochoa, who broke the news here at Inside The Star about Zimmer’s surgery, actually shared with us this additional insight on what Zimmer could be going through via an eye doctor and Cowboys fan on Twitter.
best case scenario: he isnt a diabetic patient then retina can be reatached and vision can be as good as 20/70 top

worst case scenario: he is diabetic (and never had an optimal control of it) so retina cant be reatached and the eyesight is lost

With this news, our thoughts are certainly with a great coach in Mike Zimmer. Tonight’s game won’t have the same feel to it without him roaming the Vikings’ sideline, but his team is well prepared to still give Jason Garrett’s Cowboys all they can handle.
Vikings have contingency plan in place if Mike Zimmer is unable to coach vs Dallas. Two former HCs, Tony Sparano and Pat Shurmur, on staff.
