The Dallas Cowboys Select Charles Tapper at #101

The Cowboys finally added a pass rusher in the 2016 draft, selecting Oklahoma’s Charles Tapper with the 101st pick. Tapper was a standout at the NFL Scouting Combine, running a 4.59 time in the 40-yard-dash. He’s listed at 6’3″ and 271 pounds. Coincidentally, his NFL.

The Dallas Cowboys Select Maliek Collins at #67

Near the top of the third round the Cowboys added talent to their defensive line, selecting tackle Maliek Collins out of Nebraska. Listed at 6’2″ and 311 pounds, Collins is considered a three-technique tackle with good burst and disruption ability. His NFL.com profile compared him to Henry Melton, which tells you a lot about why Rod Marinelli would want to work with him. While the Cowboys bigger need was in their outside rushers over interior linemen, they do have the ability to plays guys like Tyrone Crawford, David Irving, or Jack Crawford at defensive end.

Cowboys Draft: Thursday Recap & Friday Preview

Before we jump into tonight’s draft action I wanted to share my own thoughts about Dallas’ selection of Ezekiel Elliott. Dallas was presented with the choice that I wrote about yesterday; Elliott or Jalen Ramsey? I am glad that Ramsey was on the board so that we weren’t left with any doubts as to which player the Cowboys really wanted. It’s an extra jolt of confidence towards how much Dallas truly thought of Elliott and what they think he’s going to do in their system. I stand by what I said yesterday; Ramsey presented a rarer talent at a position of greater need.

The Cowboys and each of their NFC East opponents have added a player who they expect to be a key cog in their team for years to come. I’ve written a more extensive recap about the Cowboys’ night already. For this article, let’s do a brief rundown of what our division rivals were up to and how it will affect their matchups with Dallas.
