Cowboys Waive CB Dax Swanson; Roster Spot Open

On Monday afternoon, Dallas waived cornerback Dax Swanson. As of now they have not made a move to fill the roster spot.

The Cowboys were Swanson’s seventh team since going undrafted in 2013. Many fans were surprised that he was kept on the initial roster over Deji Olatoye, who had flashed his ability to create turnovers on a few occasions. Swanson had his own impressive plays, though, both on defense and as a kick/punt returner.

Cowboys Headlines - Cowboys Waive CB Dax Swanson; Roster Spot Open 1DallasĀ could be callingĀ up one of their current practice squad members. Defensive end Zach Moore, who has some playing experience with New England and Minnesota, is a likely candidate if they’re not looking at a veteran.

After Week One, any new veteran signings would not have fully-guaranteed contracts. They may be targeting someone in free agency to help one the defensive line or perhaps at backup offensive tackle.

If you ignore Greg Hardy, as we all should, then Quinton Coples is probably the biggest name available at defensive end. Dallas could also still be looking at Damontre Moore, who they had in for a workout within the last few weeks.

Per ESPN’s Todd Archer, one reason for the move was to allow Randy Gregory to be moved from the “Did Not Report” list to the “Suspended” list. He also reports that several players are coming in for workouts today, so it doesn’t sound like Swanson’s getting his spot back.
