For the second straight off season, the Dallas Cowboys defense is receiving nothing but bad news. For a team determined to deliver a Super Bowl to offensive stars like Tony Romo, Jason Witten, and Dez Bryant, the defense the Cowboys field under Rod Marinelli fails to resemble a unit that can help this dream become a reality. Ever since Randy Gregory’s four game suspension has been set in stone, Cowboys Nation

By now you know the news, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain has been suspended 10 games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Now a linebacker group which has the talented names of Rolando McClain, Sean Lee, and Jaylon Smith will be lucky if they even get to see one of these players in action for the majority of next season. It’s starting to look rough for the linebackers, and the defensive line will certainly be no better. The back end of the Cowboys defense, while not exactly elite, is possibly the strongest unit on this side of the ball right now. Byron Jones is coming off of an excellent rookie year and is expected to make a big jump in year 2, Orlando Scandrick is returning from his season ending knee injury, and the other corners have shown they can be solid contributors to the defense.

It was literally almost a year ago, July 2nd, 2015, that you were getting ready for your July 4th festivities (Howdy, Jason Pierre-Paul!) and got wind that Rolando McClain of the Dallas Cowboys would be suspended to begin the upcoming NFL season. 363 days later… here we are, again. The super awesome (sarcasm) thing about this is that instead of being suspended for 4 games, Rolando McClain will be forced to sit out a double digit amount – 10.

I’ve never bought into the idea that Dallas’ second-round rookie, linebacker Jaylon Smith, would play in 2016. His knee injury seemed far too serious to be worth the risk of trying to rush him onto the field. Still, there was a lingering hope that he might have a quick recovery and be able to contribute soon. ESPN’s Ed Werder all but smashed that hope with his report yesterday: No big deal, in my opinion.

We live in an age of instant information. This instant information brings instant reaction, and sometimes this reaction can be over the top. Okay, most of the time the reaction is over the top; especially when it comes to our Dallas Cowboys. This is why whenever the Cowboys do anything, I try to temper my expectations and take a deep breath before reacting. But when the Dallas Cowboys used their fourth overall selection to take running back Ezekiel Elliott, all of this normal breathing went out the window.
