Mini-Camp Injury Update: Darren McFadden and Benson Mayowa Out

For the Dallas Cowboys, the start of mini-camp was supposed to be a relatively exciting time. Cowboys Nation was eager to cross off another item on the checklist that will lead up to the 2016 season. While the now-mandatory practices will still closely resemble the light OTA work the Cowboys were doing, the team was also planning on slowly accumulating the likes of Dez Bryant and Orlando Scandrick back onto the football field. This morning, Dallas received even more good news, as Rolando McClain and Ronald Leary reported to practice. By the early afternoon though, the day had taken a sour turn for Jason Garrett’s squad.

How Benson Mayowa Fits Cowboys Blueprint

The Dallas Cowboys’ approach to this offseason has been no secret. They have searched for bargains in the open market, adding youthful and athletic players with presumably high upsides but very little production to this point in their professional careers. Defensive End Benson Mayowa fits this blueprint to a “T.” The former Seattle Seahawk, but more recently former Oakland Raider, joined the Cowboys after the Raiders failed to match the Cowboys’ offer sheet to Mayowa during free agency. The questions surrounding the Cowboys’ pass rush and defensive end situation are clear, but the addition of Mayowa seemed to not mean much for the immediate future at first.

Five Defensive Players That Need To Step Up In 2016

Yesterday I shared with you five offensive players that need to step up in 2016, and today I thought I would take a look at the other side of the ball and express what defensive players I think need to step up their game for the 2016 season. In 2015, the Dallas Cowboys defense under the guidance of defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli performed admirably and actually kept the team in games that were close enough to win, if the offensive performance would have been a little bit better. The Cowboys lost a number of games by less than a touchdown and if they can carry that over into 2016, there is no telling how far the team may go. There are a lot of players that could have been mentioned on this list, but if these players can step their game in 2016, it should improve the overall play of the entire defense. Here are the five players I would like to see step up their game in 2016:

Cowboys Sign Jack Crawford to 1 Year Deal

The theme for the off season thus far for the Dallas Cowboys has been simple. Working on the principle that the 2015 season was completely lost due to injuries, and that the current roster is much closer to the 12 win team of 2014, they have put an … Read more

2nd Round Research: Kevin Dodd, DE
