Cowboys Offense: What Training Camp Has In Store

Several fierce battles are ahead for the 2016 Dallas Cowboys training camp. Typically, a team’s most anticipated position battles center around spotlight roster spots, but this Cowboys team is either already set or has their bed made in all the most high profile positions. The quarterback position is set in stone. Tony Romo is the starter. However, if someone comes along and breaks that stone, much like Tony Romo’s clavicle in 2015, then Cowboys fans could be looking at yet another dismal rotation of sub-par signal callers.

Dallas Cowboys: Training Camp Position Battles

The Dallas Cowboys are not your typical 4-12 team. The majority of their starting positions are locked in and because of that, the organization will have some difficult decisions to make when they start to figure out their final 53 man roster. Fortunately, they still have an entire training camp and four preseason games to keep a close watchful eye over all of their players. They have plenty of time to figure out who’s in and who’s out. Now, they won’t be calling me to ask for my personal opinion, but I will be keeping an eye on some of the position battles taking place to determine for myself who makes the final cut.

LeBron James Brings Title To Cleveland: Are Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys Next?

I’ve always enjoyed connecting dots. I loved coloring books as a kid, but what I really loved were those pictures that could only be seen by that beautiful connecting of the dots. If you follow me on Twitter, or have read my work here at Inside The Star, then you know I like to look at the great game of football through a dot-connecting scope. When the Cleveland Cavaliers hoisted the Larry O’Brien on Father’s Day Evening in celebration of the first Championship the city of Cleveland has seen since the 1964 Cleveland Browns, my brain went into dot-connecting mode. LeBron James, the Finals MVP and Cleveland-crowned King, is a Cowboys fan…

Tony Romo’s Impact Is Even Greater Than You Think

Yesterday, I detailed why I felt that the NFL’s trend of team rushing yard leaders having mediocre finishes could be debunked by this year’s Dallas Cowboys. The main reason I felt this was true, was that those same yards must be converted to touchdowns to have a quantifiable impact on the game, in most cases. I also discussed how the Cowboys offense is very different from those who led the league in rushing before them. Teams like the Denver Broncos in 2011 and the New York Jets in 2009; they had no where near the offensively that this Cowboys team has when healthy. But this argument centers around just one man:

The Assumed Backup: Moore & Williams Both Getting Benefit Of Doubt

In a recent appearance on Cowboys Cast, I discussed the Dallas Cowboys’ stability at the Wide Receiver position with host Bobby Belt. Bobby said that he felt the receiving corps. didn’t take as much flack for 2015 as maybe they should have. It’s a fair point when you consider that the Cowboys, entering the season as supposed Super Bowl contenders, fell flat on their faces to the tune of a 4-12 record. Now to be totally fair to everyone the absence of both Tony Romo and Dez Bryant certainly influenced things in a negative manner.

Tony Romo Gets New Set Of Logos From ESPN

My Dad has the same initials as I do. He also happens to be a huge golfer. Like any veteran of the links he knows that he has to mark his ball. Since he’s almost as creative as his son he’s developed a cool little logo. He writes an “R” and circles it to signify the “O” for our last name.

Rookie Watch: Cowboys Sign QB Dak Prescott & DE Charles Tapper

The Dallas Cowboys have signed two more of their nine total rookies from the 2016 draft. Quarterback Dak Prescott and defensive end Charles Tapper have inked their rookie deals with the team. Prescott will receive $2.72 million on his four year contract. The Mississippi State product has already had some pressure put on him with the Dallas Cowboys, as the coaching staff appears poised to enter training camp with Kellen Moore as the primary backup QB.

Jameill Showers Won’t Go Away Quietly

As fans, we love to read, watch, tweet, analyze, and do anything we can to get our hands on any possible information about the Dallas Cowboys. We stream the Cowboys’ war room on draft night, we travel to or watch training camp online, and we salivate over the insight which those close to the organization provide us about events as trivial as OTA’s. OTA’s are interesting to me. There are no pads, there is limited contact, and the main goal of the practice time is to keep everyone upright and healthy for when actual football is ready to be played. With all that being said, I refuse to believe any time the team is together and lining up as an offense or defense is meaningless.

Which Games Could Kellen Moore/Dak Prescott Conceivably Win In 2016?

Last Wednesday the NFL Network was re-airing the Dallas Cowboys epic last-second win in New York from 2014. Giants fans tend to remember this as the “Odell catch” game as opposed to “just another miserable loss,” but hey that’s their prerogative. If you’ll remember that was a Sunday Night Football game so Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth were on the call. Towards the end of the game Cris is talking about Romo’s influence on the team and how many Cowboys fans used to, incorrectly, announce that it was he (Romo) that was holding the Cowboys back. Collinsworth goes on to say how the Cardinals game that season (which Tony missed due to injury) was a horrific preview of what life without him might be like and how he is now our hero.

Dak Prescott Probably Isn’t the Future

I don’t blame you for getting excited about the Cowboys’ drafting of quarterback Dak Prescott. It had been seven years since the Cowboys spent any draft pick on the position, going back to Stephen McGee in 2009. With rising concern about Tony Romo’s longevity, any addition of new talent at quarterback was a welcome sight. However, we really need to check our enthusiasm. Like McGee before him, Prescott is just a fourth-round pick.
