[tps_title]2017 NFL combine: 5 TE participants to watch for the Dallas Cowboys[/tps_title]
[1/5] David Njoku, Miami (6’4″, 240)
If the Dallas Cowboys truly do stick to their approach of drafting the best player available on their draft board, then former Miami Hurricane, David Njoku, should be at the top of their list if he is still available at 28.
Njoku isn’t receiving quite as much hype as O.J. Howard, but he is just as physically gifted–if not more so–then the former Alabama tight end. He has the athleticism of a wide receiver, but with the body of a TE.
Njoku was a 7 foot high jumper in high school and uses that to his advantage to high point balls in the receiving game. He has reliable hands and the strength/speed to create yards after the catch. At Miami, he lined up on the outside, in the slot, and in line, which allows him to be used in a variety ways for whichever team drafts him.
He is a willing blocker, but needs a little bit of time to develop his technique and hand placement. He could also stand to add a little bit more muscle to his frame, but that will come with time in a strength and conditioning program in the NFL.
I expect him to be a top performer in nearly every event at the NFL combine. I’m personally really looking forward to seeing him in the vertical jump and 40 yard dash.
If he puts on a good performance at the combine, he could be long gone by the time the Cowboys are on the clock at 28. But, if he is still available, he could become Jason Witten’s replacement and give Dak Prescott another weapon in the receiving game.
