[tps_title]2017 NFL combine: 5 TE participants to watch for the Dallas Cowboys[/tps_title]
[2/5] Adam Shaneen, Ashland (6’6″, 277)
Adam Shaneen is probably the tight end I’m looking forward to seeing at the NFL combine the most. He is big, fast, and athletic, but I don’t really know much more about him. I’ve studied a few games of his tape, but came away with more questions than answers.
The first thing that pops out to you when watching his game film is his size. He looks more like an offensive tackle, but has the athleticism and speed of a tight end. He is a former basketball player and reminds me a lot of Rico Gathers, the Dallas Cowboys sixth round draft pick in 2016.
Shaneen moves really well for a prospect with his size, but you don’t see the physicality you would expect when he’s blocking or in the receiving game. He tends to get pushed around and that is kind of concerning considering he wasn’t playing against elite competition in college.
There is certainly a lot to like about his game, but he probably isn’t a starter right away and needs time to develop his skill set. I think a team will take a chance on him and he will probably end up being a Day Two selection. More than any other player on this list, he could have the most to gain from putting on a good performance at the NFL combine.
I kind of doubt that the Dallas Cowboys will draft another developmental tight end since they already have that with Rico Gathers. But, he is definitely a TE prospect you want to keep your eye on this weekend.
