Out of all the players in the 2016 NFL Draft class, Ezekiel Elliott makes the boldest fashion statement. The crop top. First of all, it’s exciting to see Elliott in a Cowboys jersey. He looks great in it. But, then again, the Cowboy jersey would flatter anyone.

The majority view right now is that running back Lance Dunbar, who was re-signed to a one-year deal in March, will begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) List. He is still recovering from a major left knee injury that occurred in Week 4 last year. Dallas chose to bring back Dunbar despite this injury, no doubt due to the major role he was starting to find in 2015. He had 21 catches from Weeks 1-3, tying Jason Witten for the team lead during those weeks. Five days after re-signing Dunbar the Cowboys also added veteran running back Alfred Morris.

Imagine opening up a new toy on Christmas morning. You rip the wrapping paper off, you find out it’s exactly what you want, excitement floods your veins, and all of a sudden your parents say that you can’t play with it until April. That’s what it’s like for NFL fans after the Draft. We got not one, but nine new toys! We just want to play with them, but the 2016 season doesn’t begin until September.

The NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award is given to an NFL player who has shown perseverance overcoming adversity. Winners in the past have either missed or performed poorly in the prior season, or suffered a severe injury but then excelled the following year. While it may be too early to tell, I think Tony Romo has a good chance of winning the Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2016. The last QB to win the award was Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers in 2013. Rivers, statistically, had one of his best seasons.

The Cowboys haven’t officially announced any changes to the depth chart and probably won’t until training camp. If the rumors that are circulating prove true, then Byron Jones will be moving to free safety next to Barry Church full time. This leaves J.J. Wilcox, a free agent after the 2016 season scheduled to earn $1.

I recently saw a conversation between Cowboys fans that involved a passionate, unyielding defense of Emmitt Smith as the greatest running back of all time. It went beyond just the stats; Emmitt’s defender spoke about his character, endurance, and love for the game. He would’ve made any member of Cowboys Nation proud. It got me thinking about the way we remember the Cowboys of the 90s, and particularly the Triplets. I’ve been a Dallas fan since 1993 and I’ve heard that same defense of Emmitt many times.

Not even 48 hours after the Dallas Cowboys inked Ezekiel Elliott, Anthony Brown, Kavon Frazier, and Darius Jackson to their rookie deals… another domino on that line fell. Jaylon Smith has signed his rookie contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Ezekiel Elliott has all of our love, admiration, and googly eyes as far as this Draft Class is concerned… but it could be Jaylon Smith that truly defines it.

The Dallas Cowboys’ offseason moves haven’t exactly displayed much faith in running back Darren McFadden. After signing former Washington Redskins back Alfred Morris during free agency, the Cowboys then used their number four overall pick to select Ohio State’s workhorse, Ezekiel Elliott. To make matters worse for McFadden, the Cowboys added yet another running back in the sixth round when they drafted Eastern Michigan’s Darius Jackson. There’s no way McFadden is loving his chances to be a Cowboy come September at this point. However, I do believe there is hope for the NFL’s fourth leading rusher from a season ago.

It’s currently one of the slowest times in the NFL off season, as we drudge through May while looking ahead to the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp later on this summer. The great world of Twitter is helping Cowboys Nation get through this downtime with plenty of great -and at times not so great – Cowboys content. With that, let’s jump right in to this week’s best of the best. The Cowboys had their home run derby to raise money for the Salvation Army on Tuesday, and above are some of the best tweets from the event. While Mike Fisher’s Cowboys news is always on point, we may need him to find an additional source to confirm that Tyron Smith is actually swinging a baseball bat in that first video and not a toothpick.

Earning a roster spot in the NFL isn’t easy, and keeping that roster spot is even harder. Year in and year out, players are fighting for their NFL lives and they all know that their job security is teetering, knowing that the slightest tip of the scale can end their professional careers. Rookies are just hoping to begin their careers, while some veterans are coming to the end of theirs. For those players that enter the league as undrafted free agents, this is especially true. They have to fight harder than anybody to prove themselves and hope they get a chance to catch the attention of the coaches.
