Who will Lead the Cowboys Defense in 2016?

The date was January 11th, 2015. After winning the NFC East with a 12-4 record, the Dallas Cowboys found themselves a win away from the NFC Championship game. Standing in their way was the Green Bay Packers, as the Cowboys visited Lambeau Field for the Divisional round. In a more literal sense, it was Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers that stood in Dallas’ way, as the hobbled signal caller faced little resistance from a Cowboys’ defensive line that hit him just 3 times – resulting in Rodgers completing 24 passes for 316 yards and 3 touchdowns. While this game will be remembered for the Dez Bryant catch-that-was-not, it’s important to step back and realize how much this offense carried the team through the regular season.

Cowboys Wise to Hang On to Assets

As we’ve discussed all week, guard Ronald Leary has requested a trade but the Cowboys aren’t going to just let him leave for nothing. Similarly, Stephen Jones recently disclosed that Dallas received calls from teams interested in running backs Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris after they drafted Ezekiel Elliott. Jones said, “we just don’t have that interest.” Some of you are probably wondering why Dallas wouldn’t try to move some of these surplus players for future draft picks or a least some fresh talent at positions of need. Surely, some team out there who needs an guard or running back has a quality pass rusher they might be willing to part with.

Dallas Cowboys Need Daryl Johnston Type Fullback

Who is your favorite all-time Dallas Cowboys football player? I know the answers will vary depending on how long you’ve been a Cowboys fan or what decade you may have grown up in, but to me fullback Daryl Johnston is probably my all-time favorite. I was just six years old when the Dallas Cowboys decided to select Daryl Johnston in the 1989 NFL Draft, with their second round selection (39th overall). I was just beginning to get a really good grasp on the game of football and started paying closer attention to what was going on when I was watching the games on TV. I remember distinctively how my attention continued to gravitate towards #48 as the years progressed and the Cowboys began their journey to becoming one of the most dominant organizations during the early 1990s.

Possible Substitutes for Lance Dunbar

From the end of the 2015 season to today, the Cowboys’ most improved position is undoubtedly at running back. They have so many new options in Ezekiel Elliott, Alfred Morris, and Darrius Jackson, as well as returning players in Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar. If any one of them is called to action, good things are sure to happen. Unfortunately, Dunbar may not be called upon until after the first six weeks of the 2016 season, as he is likely to start the season on the PUP list. That is unfortunate for him and unfortunate for the Cowboys.

Does Ronald Leary Have Any Leverage?

Ronald Leary, former starting guard for the Dallas Cowboys and current backup is missing the voluntary offseason training and hasn’t been with the Cowboys all spring. He’s a restricted free agent who has signed his tender and requested a trade. Understandably so, Leary is a proven starter, who lost his starting job to La’el Collins in the middle of last season, and wants to play somewhere he has a chance to start. Will Leary be playing elsewhere in 2016? While it may be fun to imagine for who or what the Cowboys could trade him, I would err on the side of practicality and say that Leary stays in Dallas.

Jameill Showers Won’t Go Away Quietly

As fans, we love to read, watch, tweet, analyze, and do anything we can to get our hands on any possible information about the Dallas Cowboys. We stream the Cowboys’ war room on draft night, we travel to or watch training camp online, and we salivate over the insight which those close to the organization provide us about events as trivial as OTA’s. OTA’s are interesting to me. There are no pads, there is limited contact, and the main goal of the practice time is to keep everyone upright and healthy for when actual football is ready to be played. With all that being said, I refuse to believe any time the team is together and lining up as an offense or defense is meaningless.

The Cowboys are currently engaged in voluntary Organized Team Activities and will have mandatory mini-camps in the coming weeks. Even though the real battles don’t start until the official Training Camp in Oxnard, CA, plenty of things can happen during these practices that help or hurt players’ positioning for roster spots and playing time. A Dallas Cowboy “Requests” A Trade: How Did It Go Last Time?

May is a weird time in the NFL. It’s beautiful in the sense that hope is as palpable as ever throughout the buildings of all 32 franchises, but it’s weird in that players tend to make demands before everything gets seriously rolling on the season. By now you surely know that Dallas Cowboys Offensive Guard Ronald Leary has requested to be traded to a team that doesn’t have a Star on its helmet. I’m not a professional football player, shocking I know, but the idea that someone would want to play for anyone but the Cowboys befuddles me. Ronald Leary is entitled to want what he wants, and he wants a new home.
