2014 Offensive Position Battles for Training Camp

Brian Leatherman

[tps_title]Left Guard Position Battle[/tps_title]

One position that hasn’t been settled is left guard. Your starter last season was Ron Leary – and Ron did a formidable job last season – but playing between Frederick and Smith does help him look good. So you think he would be this season’s starter right? (In my best Lee Corso voice ) NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND!!! Mackenzy Bernadeau will be pushing Leary for that starting left guard position.

Leary will have to show improvement over last season’s play and hope his knee doesn’t slow him down. Because Bernadeau is very capable of taking the position over and not letting go of it. Bernadeau stepped in and played well after Brian Waters went down last season and he’ll get his shot over at the left side this season.

People keep writing Bernadeau off, and I was one of those people. But the guy just keeps getting better and better. This position battle is gonna go down to the wire.

Name to watch: Newly signed guard Uche Nwaneri was a starter for the Jags when Maurice Jones-Drew was ripping up the league and he has 90 starts under his belt. He could be a dark horse at left guard.
