Lance Dunbar, Ryan Williams and Joseph Randle are going to get the chance to become the backup for starter DeMarco Murray. However, the team does seem to be leaning towards Dunbar because of his previously demonstrated play-making ability. Again, he will have to prove he can stay healthy and prove he can hold on to the ball but, he’s got a leg up on the competition so far.

Ryan Williams is an intriguing player. He’s been hurt his entire career and he really hasn’t been able to showcase the talent he showed while he was at Virginia Tech. He will have to stay healthy and prove he’s willing to play special teams if he wants to stick around.

This is Joseph Randle’s second season, so you hope there will be some improvement, but one problem possibly too big to overcome is that Randle offers nothing on special teams. Unless he just out-plays Dunbar from the backfield, he could be on his way out of town.

Name to watch: Ben Malena is a name I want Cowboys fans to remember. He’s a rookie free agent out of Texas A&M and from what I’ve been hearing,  he’s a shifty running back with good vision and able to play special teams.
