There are quite a few holes the Dallas Cowboys need to fill in their roster this off-season. With the 2017 NFL combine starting this Friday, it’s a good chance to get to know some of the prospects they could target in the draft come April. I have already shared with you some of the defensive ends, cornerbacks, and wide receivers to watch at the combine for the Cowboys. Now, I want to turn my attention to a few of the late round running backs to watch that could backup Ezekiel Elliott in 2017.
I decided to focus on the Day Three (rounds 4-7) running backs prospects, because I don’t think there’s any reason why the Cowboys will invest another top draft pick in a RB in back to back seasons, especially with the way Elliott performed in his rookie season. Fortunately, this is a deep RB draft class, so there should still be some value available at the position in the later rounds.
There is no way of really knowing if the Cowboys would prefer to draft more of an every down type back or a change of pace back, so I focused mostly on the prospects that could fill in for Ezekiel Elliott for a short period of time if needed.
