RB Participant: Joe Williams[5/5] Joe Williams, Utah (5’11”, 202)

Why he’s on this list: Joe Williams is a player that I truly enjoyed watching when studying his game film. The first thing that pops out to you when watching his game film is his speed. When he sees daylight and explodes up the field, there isn’t very many defenders that are going to be able to catch him from behind.

Williams is the smallest running back on this list, but he runs between the tackles with an attitude of a bigger back. He doesn’t shy away from to contact and is able to use his shiftyness to make defenders miss. He kind of reminds me of Tevin Coleman with the Atlanta Falcons, but isn’t as good of a receiver out of the backfield.

The talent is certainly there for Joe Williams, but there are a lot of questions that will need to be answered for teams at the NFL combine.

What to watch for at the NFL combine: The interview process might be the most important for Joe Williams in hopes of convincing a team he is worth investing a draft pick on. I will be watching the 40 yard dash closely, because I think he will be one of the top performers. I think he will also be one of the top performers in the agility drills. The thing I’m looking forward to the most is watching him in the drills where he has to catch the ball. It’s an area of his game he struggles with, which would limit how he is used in the NFL.
