[tps_title]2017 NFL Combine: 8 WR participants to watch for the Dallas Cowboys[/tps_title]
[5/8] Zay Jones, East Carolina (6’1″, 202)
Why he’s on this list: Zay Jones barely misses the mark that the Dallas Cowboys prefer in their WRs, measuring under 6’2″, but they could possibly make an exception. In fact, saying that he is 6’1″, might be a stretch (no pun intended).
Jones is still very raw as a WR, but when watching him on film, he displays the talent to be a really good player in the NFL. He is a physical WR that isn’t afraid to carry his routes anywhere on the field. He shows strong hands when making a catch and can be dangerous in the open field.
He doesn’t possess elite speed, so he probably won’t be much of a deep threat in the NFL. This may cause him to be used as a possession WR or play out of the slot. I currently have him as a Day Three prospect with a late fifth round grade.
What to watch for at the NFL combine: I’m personally going to be watching every single event to try determine exactly what type of WR the Dallas Cowboys would be getting if they decided to draft Zay Jones. There is definitely something there to work with, but he is still very raw and might need more time to develop his skill set.
