Special teams
Dan Bailey – 4 years remaining on a 7-year, $22.5 million deal
Chris Jones – 1 year remaining on a 3-year, $4.2 million deal
L.P. LaDouceur – 1 year remaining on a 5-year, $5.5 million deal
Evaluation: This unit stays intact for at least another year. The Cowboys may decide to try to find someone who will eventually replace L.P. LaDouceur as the long snapper since he isn’t getting any younger.
Chris Jones had a fantastic 2016 season, and there’s no reason to believe why he shouldn’t build upon that performance in 2017. The Cowboys may try to extend his contract, but they don’t need to be in a hurry since he still has one year remaining on his original deal.
Dan Bailey was once again one of the best kickers in the NFL and is a valuable weapon to have because he is so automatic in his approach the game. The Cowboys don’t have to worry too much about sending him on the field to convert a field goal. Not many teams around the NFL can say the same.
