Offensive Guard
Zack Martin – 1 year remaining on a 4-year, $8.98 million deal (5th year option)
La’el Collins – 1 year remaining on a 3-year, $1.6 million deal
Ronald Leary – Unrestricted free agent
Jonathan Cooper – Unrestricted free agent
Evaluation: Zack Martin is entering the final year of his rookie contract, but don’t expect the Dallas Cowboys to let him hit the open market. I expect them to look into locking him up with a long-term contract possibly this off-season, but if not they still have his fifth year option to fall back on if something can’t be worked out.
La’el Collins started out the 2016 season as the starting left guard, but unfortunately a toe injury landed him on injured reserve. He should once again regain the starting spot on the left side and I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if the Cowboys tried to sign him to a contract extension at some point.
Ronald Leary and Jonathan Cooper are both unrestricted free agents. It’s unlikely Leary will be back, because he is probably in for a big payday this off-season.
Cooper on the other hand could possibly return as a backup. The Cowboys brought him in towards the end of the season to get a look at him. If the feeling is mutual, they could come to terms on a contract that will work for both parties involved.
