RB Rex BurkheadSign a Veteran Backup RB

The depth at the running back position behind Ezekiel Elliott is starting to look a little nonexistent, especially since it looks as if the Dallas Cowboys are trying to trade Alfred Morris. Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar will be testing their value on the open market, so signing a veteran RB makes a lot of sense.

The 2017 running back draft class is pretty deep, but it is unlikely that the Cowboys will spend a premium draft pick two years in a row on the same position, especially with the way Elliott played in 2016. That means they could look for a low-cost veteran free agent to take over the backup duties.

Darren McFadden is a popular pick by everyone to return to the Dallas Cowboys and resume his work as a backup RB, but I personally want a player that can do more for the team. That is why I think the Cowboys should take a good long look at Rex Burkhead, the former Cincinnati Bengal.

Burkhead has been buried on the depth chart in Cincinnati, but has performed really well when given the chance to run the ball. He also plays on nearly all of the special teams units, which is something that McFadden doesn’t really do any longer.

This will likely come down to money, which might make McFadden most affordable option to return to Dallas. The Cowboys already have a familiarity with him and know what he can bring to the table.

  1. It’s gonna be kinda hard to trade Romo , what team in their right mind would trade anything for a old fragile qb. Release him and get it over with already !!! It’s not like he’s going to any threats in the NFC We can use that money for Defense. Speaking of Defense that should be the ONLY focus of the off-season , resign back who you can and Draft heavy on the defensive side of the ball BUT if a playmaker TE or WR is available high in the draft you take him but other than that the off season should be simple but effective Don’t waste a good team because you won’t put together the necessary pieces on defense I feel like its the same story going into EVERY off-season DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS Not tryna out score everybody and playing keep away
