Round 7: Walt Aikens, CB, Liberty University

By far one of my favorite and most underrated draft prospects, Walt Aikens is sure to be overlooked in the draft process and if scouted correctly could easily be a mid-round prospect so expect him to move up. After some off-the-field issues, Aikens got a second chance at Liberty University where he was able to thrive as a person and a player without ever looking back.

Aikens fits the mold of an NFL cornerback. He has an incredible swagger and confidence to his game that makes him dangerous every play. He’s shown the ability to play both man-press and off coverage. He’s able to make plays on the ball and is above average at jumping routes. He has strong technique and physicality, making him also very capable in run support. Aikens truly is a great fit for the Tampa 2 defense.

Aikens also has experience playing safety.

  1. I love the Telvin Smith pick but I think but I think they should look at him as a possible safety. Position flexability always makes a player more attractive.

    • I don’t know. Smith as a safety just reminds me of Roy Williams and I think the ‘Boys need a real ball-hawk in the secondary. But if he’s quick as Bo says then maybe pass disruption could make him a good enough fit. Certainly a lot of room for improvement over the current personnel.
