The Cowboys will have an interesting decision to make on Church. He’s a tackling machine but not anything special in coverage. He will also also be close to 30 and not the ideal age for any kind of long-term deal.
You can go one of two ways with a guy like Church. Re-signing him takes cares of your safety position and lets you focus on other priorities. He’s a quality starter and would likely becomes even more effective if the Cowboys ever improve their pass rush. Re-signing him allows you to focus on that goal.
On the other hand, there’s a clear opportunity for an upgrade. Dallas may want a more coverage-oriented safety and could look to the draft and free agency to find him.
