Cowboys Have 20 Players With Expiring Contracts

Gachkar and Durant are in similar spots as veterans fighting off younger players. Anthony Hitchens and Damien Wilson are now starting in the base defense. They will be competing with Mark Nzeocha and, hopefully, Jaylon Smith for starting jobs next season. Dallas also has veteran Kyle Wilber signed through 2017.

If either Durant or Gachkar comes back, my money is on Gachkar. Aside from being younger, he is a significant special teams player and a personal favorite of coach Rich Bisaccia. It doesn’t guarantee his spot, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.
